The Munazara and Argumentation Ethics Research Center (ArguMunazara) at Ibn Haldun University, Istanbul, is inviting applications for Graduate Student Assistant to assist with the Research Project, “Adab in Dialogue: Developing Argumentative Virtues Today”, supported by the John Templeton Foundation.
The “ADAB” project aims to develop a Munazara-inspired argumentation model to be employed in university debating tournaments and other relevant areas. The project involves inquiry into post-classical Ādāb al-Baḥth wa al-Munāẓara literature, contemporary debate practices, and Argumentation Studies.

Scholarship for up to 18 months (starting date: June 1, 2022)
Tax-free scholarship of 6,600 TL per month (Equivalent to 430 $)
The successful applicant will work for the IHU ArguMunazara Research Center in general, and for the ADAB Project in particular. Responsibilities will include:
Translating classical texts from Arabic to English
Developing content for the Project website
Organizing, and participating in, project-related activities
Areas of Research: Philosophy/ Logic and Argumentation; Islamic Madrasa Sciences
Essential Requirements:
– Enrollment in a graduate programme (doctoral student applicants will be given priority)
– Proficiency in English and Arabic
– Demonstrable translation experience between the two languages
Desirable Assets:
– Previous research experience in analytic philosophy, Argumentation Theory, or Ādāb al-Baḥth wa al-Munāẓara
– Interest and willingness to contribute to the literature on Ādāb al-Baḥth wa al-Munāẓara , and/or Argumentation Theory
