After an inspiring trip to Malaysia, Dr. Rahmi Oruç from the ADAB team traveled to Indonesia. The first step in this journey was Jogyakarta.
In Jogyakarta, Dr. Oruç attended a public lecture (30.12.2022), in which he was one of the speakers next to Dr. Widigdo (UMY-Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta). Moderated by Dr. Rofiq Muzakkir of UMY, the meeting was conducted in a hybrid fashion.
Dr. Oruç introduced the ADAB project to the attendees, asking them to participate in our future projects.
There were many highlights of the Jogyakarta visit, among them:
It was an eye-opening experience to witness the success of the Indonesian Muslim communities. The two Muslim communities there, i.e., the Muhammadiyah and Nahdlatu-l Ulama,- administer hundreds of universities, hospitals, and other much-required institutions throughout the country.
UMY has many young and hardworking members keen to further collaborate such as Dr. Wididgo, Dr. Muzakkir, Dr. Idham Badruzaman, and last but not the least Dr. Muh Naim Madjid of UMY’s Arabic Department. Dr. Majdid has informed Dr. Oruç of the elective course on argumentation offered by his department. Both sides have agreed to work together on the subject.
Muhammad Wardan from the Muhammadiyah has written a book on Munazara, called Ilmu Tata Berunding, published in 1959! Special thanks to Ayub Ayub of Universitas Islam Negeri Sunan Kalijaga for letting us know about the book!
